Small Town Problems

November 11, 2014 By: Eve Robertscomment

I live in a town of 60,000 people which is not small by any means, but when you are from a huge city and the next largest town is 4 hours away, it can feel like you are trapped in the middle of nowhere.  Here are 20 common problems that I face in my semi-small town…

Small town problems

1. When you search for a local group, chapter, class, etc there are never any in your town.  You have to drive at least a few hours away if you want to attend.

2. If you want to wear the current trend, you have to shop online.  Otherwise it is camo or Carhartt.

3. When you visit a large city you come back home weighing 5 extra pounds from eating at all the awesome restaurants that you don’t have in your town.

4. Traveling via plane is either really expensive, out of the question, or a huge hassle to drive to the nearest city.

5. You can never go out in public without seeing someone you know.

6.  Need to see a specialist?  That is out of the question.

7. “Coming to a theater near you”… LIES.

The Best Carne Asada Recipe

December 22, 2013 By: Eve Roberts1 Comment

I grew up in Southern California and lived on Mexican food. One of my favorite foods was carne asada. It could be purchased from any grocery store. When I moved to a small town in Colorado I found that no store carried it and people always asked me what is Carne Asada? Since I could no longer buy it from the store I made it my mission to come up with the best ever carne asada recipe.

The recipe is great because it is best if you make it the night before and it cooks very fast. This recipe feeds 5-7 people

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 1/3 cup lime juice
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp. black pepper
  • 1 tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 tbsp. ground cumin
  • 1 tbsp. paprika
  • 1 tsp. ground oregano
  • 1 bunch fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 3 pounds flank steak

The Best Carne Asada Recipe

1. Combine all of the ingredients into a glass bowl except the flank steak.

My Infertility Journey (part 3)

December 20, 2013 By: Eve Robertscomment

Infertility Journey
**If you want to read my story from the beginning read part 1 and part 2.

In late November 2013 we visited with a new OBGYN and to my surprise, I really liked this new doctor! He looked at our past test results and once again told us everything looked great, except for my progesterone levels.  I had scored a 7; but it should have been at least 10 or higher. Since this test was lower than it should have been I was scheduled for another progesterone test a few days later.

At our consultation the doctor also informed us that we should consider having a hysterosalpingogram (HSG). It is a test to check if your fallopian tubes are open and runs about $600 – $1500. After much discussion I decided to start on clomid for days 3-7. If we don’t get a Big Fat Positive (BFP) after a few months we will have the HSG test done.

My second progesterone test results came in at 13.6, which was substantially higher than the 7 I scored initially.  Since my test scores were good, our doctor said we are now considered to have unexplained fertility (assuming the HSG test comes back positive). We will keep trying the Clomid for now and see what happens.
